Each leaf was carefully scrubbed by hand, leaving
only its lignin skeletal structure. The only remains of
the wetland that is now the Marine Five building are
microorganisms and mold spores. They use a similar
structure to the leaf lignin to connect their
communities. That similar structure is amplified in
the form that the scrubbed leaves create.
Six months of scrubbing. Scrubbing and wondering if
perhaps this strong wandering structure that is so
present and persistent is the map of the future, our
way forward. Mapping a shift away from oppressive
linear structures towards interconnectivity and
dialectical complexity. Towards new ways of finding
home together.
